CONGRESS EXCURSION : ATHENS SIGHTSEEING TOUR
Please note that you must book your participation to the congress excursion in advance due to space restrictions at the archaiological sites and Museum. Kindly be informed that late arrivals or bookings to the congress excursion of more than a week prior to the congress, cannot be accepted.
This tour is an opportunity to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens such a fascinating city. Our expert guides will take you round the city centre to see the Constitution Square (Syntagma), the House of Parliament, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and some fine examples of the 19th century neoclassical architecture which include the Athens Academy, the Athens University Lecture Hall and finally the National Library. Then, while driving down Herod Atticus Street, you will see the President of Democracy guards called "Evzones" in their traditional uniforms in front of the Presidential Palace. On your way to Acropolis, you will see the Panatheinaikon Stadium (where the first Olympic Games of modern times were held in 1896), the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian B's Gate. During our ascent of the Acropolis hill, we will have the opportunity to visit the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: Propylea, the Temple of Athena Nike, Erechtheion and, finally, Parthenon the monument that "puts order in the mind" and where "mind and matter is in perfect harmony". Then we will visit the New Acropolis Museumwith its magnificent architecture which hosts some of the findings of the Acropolis hill recent excavations as well as its permanent collection of classical antiquities.
